Tableau of Assam, on the theme ‘Assam tea- backbone of India’s economy, has been cleared by the Union ministry of defence for presentation at the Republic Day parade in Delhi on January 26 this year.

The Assam tableau will showcase the state’s tea garden, tea workers’ culture and other related aspects of the tea industry.

Cultural affairs department commissioner & secretary Preetom Saikia said the design, being made by a firm Image Creations, will be finalized on January 9.

“The idea is to depict a tea garden, activities associated with it, including the cultural side such as a jhumoor dance. Due to COVID protocol, the number of participants will be restricted,” he said.

The expert committee which is supervising the preparation on Monday reviewed the model and suggested some modifications.

The State government has also deputed officials to oversee the preparations at the national capital.

Last year, Assam had taken the limelight by winning its debut Republic Day award.

With the theme ‘Land of Unique Craftsmanship and Culture’, the state’s tableau took away the top prize surpassing the tableaus of the other 15 states and Union Territories.
