Guwahati: The Assam government has suspended five LPG distributors across the state with immediate effect after detecting irregularities in distribution practices.

According to a press release from the Office of the Chief Secretary, the action follows intensified monitoring of LPG supplies amid the prevailing situation in West Asia and in line with directives from the Centre. The review is being carried out in coordination with Oil Marketing Companies to ensure compliance and maintain uninterrupted supply.

The suspended distributors are B.M. Gas Service in Tezpur, Biswanath Gas Distributor in Biswanath Charali, Gadadhar Gas Service in Dhubri, K.A. Indane Gramin Vitrak in Howly (Barpeta), and Prakash Indane Agency in Hojai.

Authorities said LPG supplies to these agencies have been halted, and they will not receive allocations under the Supply Planning and Distribution (SPD) system until further orders. Consumers linked to these distributors have been reassigned to alternative agencies to avoid disruption in domestic supply.

The government, however, assured that there is no shortage of LPG in the state, with domestic consumers continuing to receive full allocation. It also said Assam has secured a 10 per cent increase in commercial LPG allocation, taking it up to 70 per cent, following compliance with prescribed reform measures.

Reaffirming a zero-tolerance stance on irregularities in the distribution of essential commodities, the government said further action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing review.

Officials added that the situation is being closely monitored to ensure seamless availability of LPG and safeguard consumer interests across the state.
