“From the last two days, puja rituals were organised by Tutomoni Hazarika in the village. Many people from the village visited her to get blessings. They tried to brand some women as witches in the village,” alleged a local resident.

“We suspect that they were planning to sacrifice someone during Vijayadashmi. Many people of the village still believe in such superstitious things and get them involved in such rituals,” said the resident.

The police have registered a case.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Namrup, Naba Kumar Bora said, “We have registered a case and on the basis of that we have arrested four persons in the conection with duping the people by performing rituals.”

“We are yet to find any human sacrifice angle into the case till now. Our investigation is going on,” he added.

The police officer said, “We have recovered Ganja from the residence of Tutomoni Hazarika. One girl, whose hands were found tied, was also recovered from her residence.”
