Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that Modi is the first Prime Minister of the country who discovered the inherent potential of the north east and has immensely boosted the momentum of growth in the region.
Speaking at the 1st Republic Summit organized by Republic TV at Mumbai on Wednesday, Sonowal took part in a panel discussion on the ‘Role of Indian States in surging India’ along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Chief Minister Sonowal said “Prime Minister Modi ji has brought the central government to doorstep of the people of North East and has directed each of the Union Government Ministers to visit the region every fifteen days to monitor and speed up execution of projects”, he added.
Stating that the development narrative of North East initiated by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee with the establishment of DONER Ministry has further been accelerated under the present government.
Further informing that though the Manmohan Singh led Union Government took step for NRC updation, no significant headway was made. He also said that presently under the supervision of the Supreme Court NRC updation process in going on expeditiously and this will significantly facilitate detection of the illegal foreigners.
Sonowal emphatically said that the States are today equal partners of the national development. He also averred that NITI Aayog initiatives lends positive impact in the development of the states and boosts their confidence.
Sonowal also informed about organizing the Global Investors Summit in Guwahati which led to the signing of more than 200 MoUs with investment commitment of Rs. 79,000 crore. He also said that execution of industrial projects worth Rs. 10,000 crore have already begun in the state.
While attending the Summit, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis appreciated role of the Government of Assam in the preparation of NRC and said that this would prove to be a milestone initiative in safeguarding security of the country.
