In order to extend and maintain the green belt area under the jurisdiction of 61 battalion of Shaastra Seema Bal (SSB) stationed at Bhairabkunda at the tri-junction border of Bhutan, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the SSB officials, jawans and members of the Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) and forest officials planted 2000 saplings of Shisham, Titachap, Bakul, Khokan, Sal and Jam on Thursday.

The massive plantation program was initiated by Nonoi Forest Division, Divisional forest officer (DFO), M K Sarma; deputy commandant of 61 battalion of SSB, Santosh Kumar; and secretary of the JFMC, Tata Daimari.

It is to be noted that the battalion had already planted 7000 saplings in the same area of Shikaridanga earlier.

The Udalguri district committee of Aranya Suraksha Samiti, Asom has hailed the massive plantation drive and said that it should be an eye-opener to all other social organizations of the district.
