Following the directive of the Election Commission of India ahead of the general elections, the chief electoral officer of Assam has directed all districts to hold special campaigns on Saturday and Sunday for the enrolment of voters who have been left out in the electoral list.
The campaign will be held in all the polling booths in Dibrugarh district also. The booth-level officers will be present in the polling stations to explain various issues of the voters.
The left-out voters can apply for enrollment of their names in their respective polling stations.
“Keeping in view of the impending general election to Lok Sabha 2019, and in order to provide further opportunity in campaign mode to all unrolled eligible persons to get their names registered in the electoral rolls during continuous updation period, so that they are not deprived of voting at election, has directed that special camps for this purpose,” a press release stated.
According to information, booth level officers (BLO’s) should remain present in the campaign along with the copies of final electoral rolls, 2019. One copy of the electoral roll shall be made available in the polling stations so that electors can check their names in the rolls.
The electoral rolls should be read out publicly during the camp to facilitate illiterate voters. BLO shall keep adequate copies of form 6, 7, 8, 8A with him/her to facilitate up forms by interested persons.
All the forms received during these campaign days should be disposed of by March 7, 2019 positively. The BLO’s must immediately complete the physical verification and then submit report to the election returning officer (ERO). ERO should complete the due process of law and dispose of the forms receive during the camps within 11 days, that is by March 11.
According to information, the total voters in Dibrugarh district is 951896 including 481201 male and and 470694 female voters and there are 1268 polling stations in the district.
“A format has been prescribed to monitor the forms received during the camps will be made available at chief electoral officer (CEO’s) portal at an appropriate time. Assembly constituency-wise date entry in respect of forms received during camps should be done on the website of the commission at CEO’s portal,” a release stated.
