Assam: Six families accused of being witches in Baithalangso, attacked by villagers

Despite several initiatives by the government and police in the state, several people belonging to six families in West Karbi Anglong’s Baithalangso were severely injured after some villagers attacked their houses alleging them of spreading diseases in the village.

The incident has been reported in the Satgaon area of Baithalangso. The injured persons were identified as Thabina Marak, Abina Marak, Merry Marak, Jaysinta Sangma, and Hemis Marak among others.

The victim families claimed that the incident took place on Wednesday morning after the priest of a local church accused them of being “witches”.

The priest had allegedly claimed that the six families were responsible for spreading diseases in the area while he was attending to a person who was very ill.

The houses of the families were ransacked in the attack and they were all brutally beaten up.
