A restaurant owner at New Jail Road in Jorhat and five customers who were arrested on Sunday night for violation of Covid guidelines were granted bail on Monday.

The restaurant owner Akan Das, who later also tested positive for Covid, had violated the stipulated 2 pm closure deadline for all establishments here and had kept his restaurant open till 7 pm.

He was serving alcohol and food to five customers when police swooped down and arrested all of them.

They were booked under sections 188, 169 and 34 of the IPC.
Meanwhile Covid infections are spiraling up with 177 cases found positive and three persons having expired.
The total number of cumulative positive cases is now 14784.

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati said Bolin Koch (54) of Tarajan, Jorhat, Kamal Kalita (73) of Kushal Nagar, Jorhat and Debajit Bhattacharjee (54) of DCB Road, Jorhat, died due to Covid thereby raising the total number of cumulative Covid deaths in the district to 92.

Korati stated that altogether 3,355 tests were done across the district on Monday out of which 3333 were RAT and rest RT-PCR.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that total number of active cases in the district was 984 while the number of discharged after recovery was 13, 633 in the district on Monday.

Meanwhile, two places across the district were declared as Containment Zones on Monday by the Jorhat district administration after positive patients were found in the said localities.

An order issued by Jorhat Deputy Commissioner, who is also the Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, declared an area as a Containment Zone under the Jorhat West Revenue Circle after several people tested positive at the MES Gate area.

In an another order the DC declared an area under Titabar Revenue Circle of the Titabar Civil Sub-division as a Containment Zone after several positive cases were found at Konwarchuk and Gohaingaon.

Meanwhile, in a sharp increase in detection of positive cases in a single day in Majuli 37 positive cases were detected on Monday taking the total active cases on the river island to 90.
