The Sivasagar unit of the All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) today carried out a bike rally in Assam’s Sivasagar town demanding scheduled tribe (ST) status for the Tai Ahom community.
The students’ union said that if the state government does not accord ST status before the upcoming state assembly elections next year, it will intensify the agitation across the state.

ATASU members on bikes rode across different parts of the town shouting slogans “No ST, no rest”, “ATASU zinda bad”, “BJP go back” and “BJP murdabad”.
ATASU leader Basanta Gogoi said, “We are carrying out this protest against the betrayal by the state and union governments.”
