The Sivasagar unit of the All Tai Ahom Studentsโ Union (ATASU) today carried out a bike rally in Assamโs Sivasagar town demanding scheduled tribe (ST) status for the Tai Ahom community.
The studentsโ union said that if the state government does not accord ST status before the upcoming state assembly elections next year, it will intensify the agitation across the state.

ATASU members on bikes rode across different parts of the town shouting slogans โNo ST, no restโ, โATASU zinda badโ, โBJP go backโ and โBJP murdabadโ.
ATASU leader Basanta Gogoi said, โWe are carrying out this protest against the betrayal by the state and union governments.โ
