Guwahati: Giving a boost to the health sector in Assam, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences under the Department of Medical Education and Research, and Novo Nordisk Foundation, a Danish philanthropic organisation.

The MoU will cover several components such as improving nursing education in the state including setting up of an education innovation unit, simulation lab, among others in Regional Nursing College.

It is likely to improve institutional capacity in the nursing sector and knowledge exchange programmes with national and international institutes for the health and nursing professionals.

As a part of the MoU, a financial support of Rs six crore will be provided initially. Moreover, the understanding will be looking at scaling up the partnership in due course.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked the senior scientific lead of Novo Nordisk Foundation Dr Jacob Williams Orberg for signing the MoU with the university.

He stated that health has been a priority sector for the state, as the government has been working consistently to improve various parameters to bring about overall reform in the health sector.

Chief Minister Sarma said that the partnership with Novo Nordisk Foundation will go a long way in giving shape to a collaborative mechanism for improvement of the health sector in Assam.

The Chief Minister anticipated that partnership innovation and human resource development of the nursing sector will get a new fillip. 

He added that the Assam government will cooperate in every possible way to take this partnership to reap rich dividends for the state.
