The Additional District Magistrate, Satyajyoti Baruah on Sunday promulgated Section 144 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) in Goalpara district of Assam with immediate effect.

This has been done on the presumption of anti-social forces, organizations taking chances to disrupt prevailing peaceful situation in the district after the final draft publication of NRC on Monday.

Meanwhile, eight companies of central paramilitary force have been deployed to cover the ninety NSK centres of the district amid which eighteen are very sensitive.

Deputy Commissioner Bornali Deka and Superintendent of Police Amitava Sinha have appealed to cross sections of people to maintain peace and cooperation and not to believe in rumours.

On the other hand, the Goalpara district administration in a joint press conference on Saturday said that though they expect a peaceful environment yet police is ready to counter any situation that may occur post publication of the NRC final draft on Monday in Goalpara district.

The administration also held a crucial meeting with all the heads of the student organizations like AASU, ARSU, AAMSU, Bengali Youth Federation and Gorkha students and sought their acute cooperation in the post publication scenario.

Bornali Deka, DC and Amitava Sinha, Superintendent of Police addressed the press meet.

Meanwhile, the people of the char areas adjacent to the Goalpara town have expressed their faith upon the inclusion of their names in the final draft of the NRC.

Speaking before a team of media persons, residents of Baladmari, Moukhowa, Ujirer chars said that when they have all the necessary documents since 1951 they are neither worried nor tensed about Monday publication
