Guwahati: A child was allegedly hit by a Scorpio at Akashiganga in Assam on the night of September 30, following which the vehicle reportedly fled the spot and was later intercepted by police after a chase spanning nearly 40 km.
The incident involved a Scorpio bearing registration number AS02 AA 0150. According to local residents and eyewitnesses, the vehicle allegedly struck the child before speeding away towards Nagaon. Residents reportedly followed the vehicle in an attempt to stop it.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the Scorpio continued driving recklessly despite repeated attempts to intercept it. During the chase, the vehicle reportedly sustained around 50 per cent damage. Residents further alleged that it dragged a police naka-checking barricade for some distance and caused damage at the Doboka toll gate.
The occupants of the Scorpio also allegedly threatened people pursuing the vehicle, according to local residents.
Personnel from the Nonoi Police Outpost eventually intercepted the vehicle and detained two youths travelling in it.
The condition of the child remains unclear. Police have launched an investigation into the alleged hit-and-run, the subsequent chase and the reported damage caused during the incident.
