Guwahati: Schools in Assam’s Kamrup (M) district, which primarily comprises Guwahati city, will reopen on Wednesday (September 25, 2024), after a brief closure due to scorching temperatures.
The District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) cum DMC, Kamrup (M), on Tuesday, issued an order revoking the previous closure order that was in effect on September 23.

The decision to reopen schools came following an improvement in weather conditions in the district, read the order.
However, the order issued on September 20 regarding adjusted school timings from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM will remain in place until further notice.
All government-provincialized, and private schools in Kamrup metro will resume normal classes from tomorrow, the order said.

On Monday, Assam sweltered under record-breaking heat. Guwahati reached 39.3°C, Dibrugarh hit 39.5°C, North Lakhimpur climbed to 39.6°C, and Jorhat touched 37.9°C.
In response to the scorching temperatures, the Kamrup Metropolitan DEEO announced the closure of all schools in Guwahati from September 24 to 27.
However, a brief shower provided some relief to Guwahati residents on Monday evening.
