Taking up the NRC update case, the apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman observed that the officials engaged in the NRC update process ‘should be engaged in NRC work only’.

The court said that office for NRC verification should remain adjacent to the residence.

“RGI and NRC coordinator will monitor the updating process with their powers vested upon them,” the apex court observed.

“We welcome the decision taken by the Supreme Court. We know that under the observation of the Hon’ble Supreme Court the NRC will be error free,” said AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya.

He has also appealed to the officials engaged in the NRC update work to take the task very seriously.

“We know that several illegal foreigners are trying to include their names in the NRC,” said Bhattacharya.

Bhattacharya said that the NRC work is almost going to be over and now the verification work is going on.
