Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad secretary general Mrinal Das passed away at 7-40 AM on Saturday at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) died of Covid19.

He was 55 years old.

Mrinal Das, who hailed from Tamulpur in Baksa district, was also an actor and well-known cultural activist.

He was admitted to the GMCH a week ago after he became seriously ill and tested positive for Covid19 in the hospital.

Son of late Rajanikanta Das and late Renuka Das of Tamulpur, Mrinal Das was suffering from heart ailment and diabetes.

Mrinal Das had been closely associated with various social organisations and institutions in Tamulpur since his student life.

He was a former general secretary of Tamulpur Anchalik Students’ Union, former assistant general secretary of All Nalbari District Students’ Union and was one of the founders of the now-extinct Tamulpur Junior Progressive Club.

Till his death, he was associated with Tamulpur Mahakuma Rangali Bihu Sanmeelan, Tamulpur Srimanta Sankardev Sakha Satra, Tamulpur Anchalik Hari Mandir, Tamulpur District Sports Association, Tamulpur Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Asom Gana Parishad and Assam Natya Sanmeelan.

Mrinal Das was also an accomplished reciter and quiz master.

He won the hearts of the audience by acting in several plays as well as Assamese serials and films.

Apart from producing the popular television series ‘Khiriki Mukhor Alohi’, he also acted efficiently in ‘Sameeran Baruah Ahi Ase’, ‘Suryasta’, ‘Barashi’, ‘Dhuniya Tirotabor’, ‘Ji Golpor Xekh Nai’, ‘Xonor Kharu Nalage Muk’, etc.

He also acted in different Assamese telefilms.

Mrinal Das played a leading role in the development of various institutions in Tamulpur.

He was serving as an accountant (in-charge) of Nagrijuli Development Block.

Till 2020, he decorated the post of president of Tamulpur District Karmachari Parisad and tried to give a new impetus to the Parishad.

His work skills enabled him to hold the post of secretary general at the Conference of Sadou Asom Karmachari Parisad held in Tinsukia.

Ever since he took over as secretary general of the Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad, Das continued to work for the welfare of the state employees.

The people of Tamulpur and other organisations have expressed deep condolence at the demise of Das.

In his death, sports secretary of All Assam Students’ Union Purna Deka, education secretary Bhabajit Bezbaruah, Asom Sahitya Sabha secretary (baartaa) Brajendra Nath Deka, Tamulpur MLA Leho Ram Boro, former student leader Hiranya Chaudhary, former vice president of Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad Kandarpa Deka, All Nalbari District Students’ Union, All Baksa District Students’ Union, All Tamulpur Subdivision Students’ Union, Tamulpur, Kumarikata, Dakshin Defeli, Dwarkuchi, Tebitala Anchalik Students’ Union, Tamulpur Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Tamulpur Press Club, Tamulpur District Sports Association, Tamulpur District Karmachari Parishad, Nagrijuli Ambikagiri Sangha and Gramya Puthibharal, Nagrijuli Srimanta Sankardev Sakha Satra, Tamulpur Subdivision Rangali Bihu Sanmeelan, Tamulpur Ancholik Hari Mandir Samiti, Tamulpur Ancholik Durga Mandir Samiti, Tamulpur Srimanta Sankardev Sakha Satra, Tamulpur Bidhan Parishad of Asom Gana Parisad and various organisations and institutions have expressed deep grief on his demise.

The organisations have prayed for the eternal peace of Das’ departed soul and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

At the time of his death, he has left behind his wife, two children, relatives, and numerous admirers.
