3 Assam Rifles jawans, one civilian held with drugs worth Rs 1 crore in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh Police led by additional superintendent of police – Bitul Chetia has arrested three jawans of the Assam Rifle and one civilian with 269 grams of suspected heroin in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

Police also seized two vehicles in connection with the drugs recovery – a Bolero car bearing registration no AS 07L 4096 from Jokai in Dibrugarh and one Tata Xenon bearing registration no NL 11 2673 from Dergaon in Assam.

The Assam Rifles jawans arrested by the police are: Ranjit Kumar Singha, Binay Kumar and Junush Khan.

The arrested civilian has been identified as Pezslhoulie Rupreo.

“We have registered a case under sections 22(c)/27A/29 of the NDPS Act at Dibrugarh police station against the accused,” police said.

Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra said that the group was intercepted by police at Jokai near Dibrugarh while they were traveling from Dimapur to Tinsukia.

The contraband substance worth about Rs 1 crore was to be delivered to a drugs dealer in Tinsukia.

“We are investigating and soon the links involved in drugs trafficking will be unearthed,” SP Mishra said.
