Guwahati: Assam has extended the academic session for Class 10 and Class 12 students to compensate for disruptions caused by recent floods and the deployment of government personnel for Census-related duties, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced on social media following a special notification issued by the state’s school education authorities.
Under the new timetable, regular classes for Class 10 students will continue until February 22, 2027, while Class 12 students will attend classes until March 8, 2027.
The decision was taken after authorities assessed the impact of flooding on schools and students in several parts of Assam. The involvement of government machinery in Census activities was also cited as a factor affecting the normal academic calendar.
The extension is expected to affect the timing of the state’s board examinations. The dates for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination and the Higher Secondary Final Examination have not yet been announced.
Officials said the examination timetable will be prepared after considering the additional classroom teaching period.
The move is intended to provide students with sufficient instructional time to complete their academic requirements before appearing for the board examinations, particularly those whose studies were affected by the recent disruptions.
