Assam reported 74 deaths due to COVID-19 on Thursday, while the number of coronavirus cases in the state rose sharply with 6,573 persons testing positive, a health official said.
With detection of the 6,573 positive cases against the testing of 1, 02,684 samples on Thursday, Assam has reported a positivity rate of 6.40 per cent for the day, health minister Keshab Mahanta said in a tweet.

Kamrup (Metropolitan) district, where the daily numbers have been highest among all districts of the state, registered 1,084 cases on Thursday.
The recovery rate in the state marginally declined to 84.25% from 85.31% recorded on Wednesday.
The state reported 89 Covid-related deaths and 6,143 new cases on Wednesday.
