Assam has registered 408 new COVID19 positive cases, taking the state’s overall tally to 8,955.
Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his latest tweet on the state’s COVID19 status said in the last 24 hours, Guwahati alone has reported 378 cases.
The health minister has requested all the citizens to follow the lockdown norms with sincerity.
Due to surge in the COVID19 positive cases in Guwahati, the Assam government recently declared total lockdown in Guwahati for 14 days till July 12.
“Alert ~ 408 new #COVID19+ cases detected today In last 24 hours 378 cases reported from Guwahati City. We request all to follow lockdown rules sincerely,” health minister Sarma tweeted.
With the new cases, the total number of active COVID19 cases in Assam now stands at 3,109.
Earlier, a total of 5,831 COVID19 patients were discharged from various civil, district and model hospitals across Assam while 3 cases migrated from the state.
The deadly disease has claimed the lives of 12 persons so far.
“Total cases 8955. Recovered 5831. Active cases 3109. Deaths 12,” Sarma added.
Meanwhile, health minister Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated a 900-bed COVID19 care hospital at the College of Veterinary Science playground, Khanapara in Guwahati in presence of his deputy Pijush Hazarika.
“It (hospital) has individual rooms with attached bathrooms for patients. It shall strengthen our treatment capacity amid rising number of positive cases,” health minister Sarma said.
Sarma also informed that a 450-bed COVID19 care hospital is being readied at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Guwahati and this “shall be functional soon”.
Sarma along with his deputy Pijush Hazarika inspected the site on Wednesday.
