Assam has registered 1,088 new COVID19 positive cases, taking the state’s overall tally to 19,754.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his latest tweet on the state’s COVID19 status said out of the new cases, 649 infected patients are from Guwahati.

“Alert ~ 1088 new #COVID19 ve+ patients in Assam, 649 in Guwahati alone,” health minister Sarma tweeted.

As Assam continues to report hundreds of positive cases on daily basis, the health minister has urged the people of the state to stay at home and remain fit.

He tweeted, “Stay at home. Stay fit. Stay safe!”

With the new cases, Assam currently has 6,815 active cases while 3 cases have migrated from the state.

Earlier, a total of 12,888 COVID19 patients have been discharged from various civil, district and model hospitals across Assam after they tested negative for the virus.

On Wednesday, a total of 715 COVID19 patients have been discharged from the hospitals in Assam.

Sharing the news in an earlier tweet, health minister Sarma said: “Discharge Alert. 715 patients discharged today in Assam.”

The deadly disease has so far claimed the lives of 48 people in Assam.

On Wednesday, two more persons, including a doctor from Tinsukia, succumbed to COVID19 infections.

The second doctor from the state, who died of COVID19 infection, has been identified as Dr PK Sharma, a senior private medical practitioner in Tinsukia.

He died at Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH).

The another person, who died of COVID19 on Wednesday, was a 45-year-old positive woman from Kamrup Metro district.

“Very sad to share that Smt Hira Devi (45) from Kamrup Metro & Dr Pradip Kumar Sharma (75) from Tinsukia succumbed to #COVID19 today, as per the report of Death Audit Board of Assam,” health minister Sarma said in an earlier tweet.
