Re-poll has been announced in 29 polling stations across Lakhimpur district following irregularities in the first phase Panchayat polls held on December 5.

The first phase of Panchayat polls, held in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday was marred by faults in the electoral roll, faulty ballot papers with wrong poll symbols and short supplies of ballots.

The re-poll is scheduled for December 10 in 27 polling stations in North Lakhimpur sub-division while for two polling stations in Dhakuwakhona sub-division re-poll is being held on Friday.

The polling stations where re-polling is scheduled in North Lakhimpur sub-division are No.1, No. 2, No.3 Bazar LP School PS for Harmutty Gaon Panchayat under Gabharu ZPC, Right and Left polling stations of Dulung-Ukhamati LP School, Ghagar Nagar, Ananda Tea Estate Labour Club and Ananda Tea Estate LP School (Right), Borbeel ME School (Right and Left), Usha LP School (Right and Left) of Bogeenadi Anchalik Panchayat and Baogeenadi Gaon Panchayat, Gautam Mili High School (Right) under Bogeenadi ZPC, Balitika-Haripur LP School (Left) of Nowboicha ZPC, Alichiga LP School (Left), Aamtola Bishnupur LP School (Left), Bamungoyan LP School (Left) of Telahi ZPC, Bowalguri-Nalkata LP School (Left) of Somdiri ZPC, Rajbari LP School (Left and Right), Mornoi LP School (Left) of Bihpuria ZPC, Ghunasuti LP School, Borchapori ME School, Borakpak LP School of Lakhimpur ZPC.

In Dhakuwakhona sub-division re-poll is being held in Nemutengani LP School under Harhi Gaon Panachayat of Harhi ZPC and Amlakhi-Dangdhora Sarvodaya High School under Maatmora Gaon Panchayat of Dhakuwakhona ZPC today.

These were messaged to the state election commission by the four election observers appointed by it for Lakhimpur Panchayat polls. Meanwhile Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Dr. Jeevan B. said that an enquiry would be conducted for the irregularities that had happened on December 5 poll day.

The Lakhimpur DC blamed the Panchayat Chairman and Block Development Officers of the district for the irregularities. The Panchayat poll in Lakhimpur held on December 5 had a turn-out of 69.19% and was marred by huge irregularities including dropping of voter’s names from electoral roll, rigging and shortage of ballot papers.
