Guwahati: Assam’s Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has come under fire for creating confusion with contradictory social media posts regarding the announcement of HSLC exam results, allegedly misleading students, parents, and the public.
On Friday (April 19) at 9:35 pm, Minister Pegu shared a screenshot from his parody account (peguranoj) on X, claiming it to be fake. The post from the parody account asserted that SEBA and AHSEC would declare HSLC and HS exam results on Saturday. However, Pegu labeled it as false and clarified, “Some miscreants have been spreading rumors by creating fake shots of my X (Twitter) account… SEBA will announce the results as per its schedule.”

He even tagged the Chief Minister of Assam’s official X handle on the post.

However, he did not clarify the content of the post he left on Friday.
Contrary to Pegu’s assertion, the SEBA declared the HSLC (class 10) results on Saturday, April 20, at 10:30 am. This contradicted Pegu’s previous statement that results would not be announced on April 20.
Pegu labeled reports and posts from another X handle as “false news” in a subsequent post, again asserting that results would not be announced on Saturday.
However, Pegu’s “false news” alert proved to be incorrect, as the results were indeed announced as per the supposedly fake post.
On Saturday morning, Pegu posted again, confirming the results would be announced that day at 10:30 am, without addressing the contradiction from his previous post.
X users criticized Pegu in the replies, with some calling for his resignation due to the confusion caused among students.
The SEBA’s official website had also stated that results were scheduled for April 20.
