Assam: Rally against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill at Dhubri

More than five thousand supporters of Dhubri district unit of Axom Miya (Axomiya) Parishad on Thursday took out a rally against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 demanding inclusion of the names of genuine Indian in NRC and withdrawal of the names of D voter immediately.

The mass rally was led by M Z Hazarika, president of the organization. The rally started at 11 in the morning from the Goibazar area of Gauripur town, 14 km from the Dhubri district headquarter and finally reached at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Dhubri at about 2pm.

During this four hours long road journey, the supporters were displaying the placards in their hands and shouting slogans the bill.

Further, the organisation also submitted a memorandum to the President of India through the DC, Dhubri and copy of which was also sent to the Prime Minister, Union Law Minister, Union Home Minister, Governor of Assam, Chief Minister of Assam and NRC state co coordinator Pratik Hajela.

The organization has demanded to expedite solution of the matter of D-voter, immediate issue of NRC by appointing the police and magistrate up to the village levels and an end to harassment of any genuine Indian citizens in the name of D-voter.

The organization has also demanded early and immediate release of all those persons who were already kept in detention camps without any further delay.

The organization has also demanded the government to solve all these burning issues as early as possible.

In view of the rally the district administration beefed up the security arrangements across the district and police barricade were also erected in all prime locations approaching to the office of the DC office, Dhubri.
