It may be mentioned that there has been long-standing demand of the people of central Assam for running a long distance train from Nagaon connecting southern part of the country.
The central government decided to launch the new train to fulfil the demand of the people of the area ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
Some people have also termed the new train as a pre-poll gift from union minister of state for railways Rajen Gohain, who is the MP of Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency.
Informing about the launch of the new train, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on its official Twitter account stated: “MOSR(G) Rajen Gohain flagged off the 15629 / 15630 Silghat – Tambaram Express from Nagaon station today. Central Assam got connected to South India fulfilling a long demand of people.”
In another tweet, the NFR also stated that the new 15629 / 15630 Silghat – Tambaram Express will be named as Nagaon Express.
It may be mentioned that the 15629 / 15630 Silghat-Tambaram Express is the extension of the existing 15629/5630 Tambaram-Guwahati Express.
