Due to incessant rains for several hours, a huge area at Numaligarh under Bokakhat sub-division of Golaghat district has been submerged.

Massive flow of rain waters coming from the Numaligarh tea garden, situated in the southern side of the National Highway 37, have submerged houses of several people in the area.

The rain waters, which started to flow since 2 am in the wee hours on Tuesday, have created panic among the people.

Artificial flood waters have entered houses of several people in the area.

As the artificial flood waters suddenly entered their houses, the households even did not find time to keep their things in proper places.

Most of the people including women and children had to leave their homes at night and move through waist-deep waters to take shelter in higher and safe places.

Rains continue to create havoc in the area.

The flow rain waters submerged several schools in Numaligarh including the high school, girls’ school and Sishu Kalyan Primary School.

On the other hand, the road communication between Upper Assam and Lower Assam has been disrupted as artificial flood waters have submerged the NH 37 at Numaligarh.

Since morning on Tuesday, rain waters still continue to flow towards the National Highway 37 through the drains of Numaligarh tea garden.

The locals say that if the rain waters continue to flow in such a way, the situation may deteriorate.
