Dibrugarh: A 23-year-old worker engaged in railway electric line work was electrocuted to death after coming in contact with a live wire at Chaulkhiwa in Assam’s Dibrugarh on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Sarfaraz Sheikh (20), from West Bengal.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the worker was carrying out work related to the railway’s electric line.
“The power supply had reportedly not been switched off at the time, resulting in the worker receiving a fatal electric shock. The young worker died in the incident,” said a local resident.
The incident has raised serious questions about safety protocols, coordination and precautionary measures during railway electrical work.
Questions are also being raised over how work was allowed to continue without ensuring that the power supply to the live line had been disconnected.
