The Bajali sub-divisional administration in Barpeta district of Assam on Wednesday took out a drive against illegal selling of liquor without licenses in some shops.

A sub-divisonal administration team led by the sub-divisional officer (civil) Vijay Bhaskar Reddy P,  carried out raids in a number of restaurants and seized 58 bottles of liquor in the Bhawanipur area of the district.

While 36 bottles of whisky were seized from the hotel Bhagyashri, another 22 bottles of whisky along with several packets of local liquor were seized from a residence.

On the same day, the administration team also raided in many shops of Bhawanipur area and seized 30 LPG domestic cylinders misused in three shops.

One cylinder was seized from Bhagyadevi fast food, two from Bhagyashree hotel & restaurant and 27 numbers of domestic LPG cylinders were seized from Champa Talukdar shops.

Bajali sub-divisional officer (civil) Vijay Bhaskar Reddy P, while speaking to Northeast Now said, “As per the complaints received we have conducted raids in Bhawanipur area and seized 58 liquor bottles and also a large number of shops owners are using domestic LPG cylinders in their shops. So we conducted raids in the shops and seized 30 cylinders being misused for commercial purpose.”

As per norms, the use of domestic cylinders for commercial purposes is legally not allowed.

However, shopkeepers and owners of other commercial establishments have been flouting norms every now and then by using domestic LPG cylinders.

Earlier also, the Bajali sub-divisional administration along with Food and Civil Supplies Department officials seized several domestic LPG cylinders misused in the restaurants and hotels in the sub-division.
