Dibrugarh: The detention of Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh under the National Security Act (NSA) is set to expire on Wednesday, with a Punjab Police team already in Dibrugarh to take him into custody in a separate case.
Sources said the arrest is likely to be carried out immediately after the expiry of the detention period, following due legal procedures. The case relates to the February 2023 attack on the Ajnala police station in Punjab.
Amritpal Singh, leader of Waris Punjab De, has been lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail since April 23, 2023, after his arrest in Punjab.
Nine of his close aides โ including Papalpreet Singh, Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh Bhukhanwala, Harjit Singh, Basant Singh, Gurinder Singh Aujla and Bhagwant Singh, also known as Pradhan Mantri Bajeke, were initially detained under the NSA and other charges but have since been taken to Punjab.
Arrangements are in place for Amritpal Singh’s transfer or arrest by Punjab Police following the completion of legal formalities.
