The PSO filed an FIR with the Goalpara Sadar police station in this regard.

While narrating the incident, PSO Jilani told the media: “We were playing badminton like the other days in his (MLA’s) residence. The shuttle accidentally hit his younger brother Atower Rahman’s wife.”

“At this, the MLA became furious and hit me in my head with his badminton racket. Then Atower Rahman also began kicking and hitting me on my leg. I fell down and can’t remember further,” he alleged.

“PSO Rasid Jilani has sustained grievous injury and required several stitches on his head. He also profusely bled due to the wound. However, now he is out of danger,” said a doctor on condition of anonymity.

While talking to Northeast Now, Congress MLA Alom said, “The complaint is false and fabricated. He injured himself. Now to avoid departmental punishment, he has filed the FIR.”

The MLA further alleged, “I have received various complaints against him from the female visitors to my residence.”

“Once, he even pointed his gun against one of my other PSOs, Sahar Ali Sk. I have informed everything to the superintendent of police and appealed to replace him,” he added.

Nani Das, secretary of Goalpara district CP(I)M told Northeast Now, “The Congress MLA was charge-sheeted in the murder case of local youth, Vikramjit Nath, way back in 2001.”

“Now, the man, who protects the MLA, has been wounded by the same legislator. We demand his immediate arrest and draw the attention of the Assam Assembly speaker.”
