The Jorhat district unit of AJYCP on Monday burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at Gar-Ali in the eastern Assam district in protest against the steep increase of prices of petrol and diesel.

The protesters, led by state leaders of AJYCP, Siba Kalita and Babu Dutta, shouted slogans against the Central Government for continuous hike of fuel prices in the past 20 days.

In a separate protest on the same issue Congress party members led by AICC Secretary and  former MLA Rana Goswami, staged a  dharna  of the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner’s office here today against the hike in fuel prices.

The protestors, holding posters and banners, shouted slogans against the Central Government for ‘ignoring’ the masses and the marginalized sections of the society.
