The Chirang District Magistrate, Ratul Barua, has detailed the Additional District Magistrate and in-charge of the Bijni Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Gakul Chandra Brahma for conducting a magisterial inquiry into the death of one person, namely Nikhil Mandal, son of late Ashwini Mandal of village No 1 Bishnupur under Panbari Police Station in forest custody at Panbari Forest Range office in Chirang on May 5, 2018.

According to official sources, Additional District Magistrate Brahma has been asked to conduct the inquiry as per the latest guidelines of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

Brahma has also been asked by the Chirang District Magistrate, Ratul Barua, to submit the report of the inquiry within thirty days.

In response to this regard, the inquiry officer, Brahma, has appealed to all interested individuals, general public, social organisations, eye-witnesses and family members of the person, who died during forest custody on May 5, 2018, to cooperate with him in finding out the actual facts of the incident.

Additional District Magistrate Brahma further asked such persons or organisations to appear before him for hearing and submit their reports, papers and evidences related to the same incident at his office chamber in Bijni SDO (C) office at the earliest date on any working days.
