A 45-year-old printing press owner was found hanging at his business establishment in Guwahati on Sunday.

Tapan Patgiri, a resident of the city’s Noonmati area, is suspected to have committed suicide due to a severe financial crisis as his business did not pick up after the Covid-induced lockdown.

“He was depressed over losses in business due to to the pandemic.  He lost hope after trying hard to revive the business and on Sunday he took the extreme step,” said one of his friends.

His body was found hanging inside his printing press at the Bamuni Maidam area in Guwahati.

Patgiri, who ran his printing press, Ignition at the Industrial Estate, remained closed during the lockdown.

Even after the lockdown was partially lifted, his business did not pick up the way he had expected, his family members said.
