Doomdooma: A premature baby was found beside a roadside at New Uchamati in Doomdooma in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Monday. Police are investigating how the baby reached the spot and what happened before it was found there.
According to reports, the baby was found lying beside the road possibly late on Sunday night. Local residents noticed the baby and informed Doomdooma Police. A police team then reached the spot and took the baby into custody for necessary legal proceedings.
Confirming the recovery, Manujjal Gogoi, Officer-in-Charge of Doomdooma Police Station, told Northeast Now, “A premature baby has been found.”
Police are yet to establish how and when the baby was brought to the roadside. They are examining the available evidence to determine what happened.
The incident has caused concern among local residents over the possibility that the baby may have been left at the roadside after birth. However, police have not established any such motive, and the matter remains under investigation.
The discovery has also raised concerns among residents about late-night activities in parts of Doomdooma. Some residents have called for increased night patrolling and discreet surveillance, including patrols in civil dress at vulnerable locations, to identify suspicious movements.
Several questions remain unanswered, including who brought the baby to the roadside, when it was brought there and what led to its abandonment.
Police are continuing their inquiry and will examine the available evidence before reaching a conclusion about the incident.
