Tragedy struck Assam on Wednesday evening as popular Assamese singer Vitali Das passed away in Guwahati. 

Vitali Das succumbed to COVID-19 at the Kalapahar COVID-19 hospital in Guwahati at 7:05pm.

Vitali Das’ condition turned critical on Wednesday morning and was under ventilation. 

She was admitted to the Kalapahar COVID-19 hospital on April 15 after testing positive for COVID-19. 

However, her COVID-19 test results came back negative on Wednesday morning.

The hospital authorities have decided to hand over Vitali Das’ mortal remains to her family for last rites. 

“This is a very tragic news. Vitali Das is no more. She passed away at 7:05pm. As her COVID-19 test results came back negative, we have decided to hand over her body to her family,” informed GMCH Superintendent Abhijeet Sarma. 

Vitali Das is survived by her husband and a daughter. 

Meanwhile, condolences started to pour in as soon as the news of her demise broke out. 

“Express condolences to her entire family,” said Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
