Guwahati: United Peopleโ€™s Party Liberal (UPPL) candidate Pramod Boro on March 20 filed his nomination papers for the 43 Tamulpur Assembly constituency at the office of the District Commissioner.

Boro was accompanied by his wife Parul Bharali, Minister U.G. Brahma, MLA Jolen Daimari, MCL(A) Wilson Hasda and other party leaders during the filing.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Boro asserted that the partyโ€™s decision to contest the elections was final, ruling out any possibility of withdrawal. โ€œOur partyโ€™s decision is final. There is no question of withdrawing the nomination papers,โ€ he said.

He said the UPPL was not entering the electoral fray with hostility towards any political party or individual. โ€œWe have no opposition to any political party. We also have no personal enmity with Hagrama Mohilary,โ€ Boro said, adding that he had โ€œeven sought blessings from BJP candidate Biswajit Daimaryโ€ earlier in the day.

Outlining the partyโ€™s electoral strategy, Boro said the UPPL is fielding candidates in 15 constituencies within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and five seats outside it. He expressed confidence in the partyโ€™s prospects, stating that it expects to win โ€œ10 to 12 seatsโ€.

On alliance possibilities, he clarified that no commitments had been made so far. โ€œWe have not promised alliance or friendship with anyone,โ€ he said.

Taking a swipe at the ruling coalition, Boro remarked, โ€œThe NDA has a new love today. We have no intention of disturbing that love.โ€
