Guwahati: Sitting Nagaon MP and senior Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi on Wednesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP president Dilip Saikia.
The move marks a significant political development in Assam, with the ruling BJP further strengthening its position ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
Bordoloiโs induction is being viewed as part of the partyโs broader strategy to consolidate its support base and expand its reach across the state.
Welcoming him into the party fold, BJP leaders expressed confidence that his experience and political influence would add to the partyโs organisational strength in the region.
A two-time Member of Parliament from the Nagaon constituency, Bordoloi has been a prominent face of the Congress in Assam. He has also served as a Cabinet Minister in the Tarun Gogoi-led government.
His entry into the BJP is expected to have political implications in Nagaon and adjoining areas, where he commands a considerable support base.
