Guwahati: The Congress is set to roll out its Assembly election campaign in Assam after March 26, with party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra scheduled to address a series of public meetings across the state, party sources said.
The campaign will gather momentum after the last date for withdrawal of nominations, with the partyโs central leadership expected to spearhead outreach efforts in key constituencies.
According to sources, the three leaders will highlight the Congressโs agenda on social welfare and development, while also outlining the partyโs broader vision for Assam and the Northeast in the upcoming election manifesto.
As part of the campaign strategy, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is expected to focus on women voters, who constitute nearly half of the stateโs electorate of around 2.5 crore. Her recent interactions with various sections of society during a visit to Assam are likely to inform aspects of the partyโs messaging, sources said.
Senior Congress leaders from the national leadership are expected to address multiple public meetings and smaller outreach events, with particular emphasis on constituencies in upper Assam. The party is said to be targeting at least 35 seats across districts such as Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Jorhat, Majuli, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji.
Party leaders indicated that the campaign would seek to draw attention to what it describes as shortcomings of the BJP-led NDA government, while positioning the Congress as an alternative with a development-focused roadmap.
Details of the campaign schedule are being finalised, with senior leaders expected to begin their engagements soon after March 26.
