Guwahati: Expanding its political reach beyond Jharkhand, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Monday, March 23, announced candidates for 21 Assembly seats in Assam for the 2026 elections.

The names were cleared by the partyโ€™s top leadership, with general secretary and spokesperson Vinod Kumar Pandey formally approving the list.

The selections cover constituencies across Upper Assam as well as other regions, showing the partyโ€™s intent to gain a foothold in the state.

In Mazbat, the party has placed its trust in Priti Rekha Barla, while Teharu Gour will contest from Biswanath. Khumtai will see Amit Nag in the fray, and Bhubem Murari has been assigned Chabua. Candidates such as Phedicrson Hasda (Gossaigaon), Baldev Teli (Sonari), Peter Minj (Duliajan), and Paban Sautal (Rangonadi) are also part of the lineup.

Further entries include Bharat Nayak in Digboi, Prabhat Das Panika in Bhergaon, Mahabir Baske in Tingkhong, Abdul Mazan in Barchalla, and Mathew Topno in Rangapara. The remaining list features Jernail Minj (Margherita), Sanjay Bagh (Naharkatia), Muna Karmakar (Makum), Ratnakar Tati (Doomdooma), Sahil Munda (Sapekhati), and Sonia (Titabor).

For the reserved Bokaijan seat, Pratapchandra Rangphar has been selected, while Prabhakar Das will represent the party in Khowang.

Political watchers say the partyโ€™s focus appears to be on areas with a strong presence of tea garden workers and tribal communities, where it may find support. The mix of candidates also suggests an attempt to reach different sections of voters.

JMM, traditionally active in Jharkhand, has entered the Assam electoral landscape, where it will be part of a competitive field alongside other established parties.
