Guwahati: Debabrata Saikia, the Leader of Opposition, filed his nomination on March 20 from Nazira in Sivasagar, aiming for a fourth term.
Senior party leaders, including state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, were present with him during the submission process.
The Nazira constituency has a long connection with his family, as it was earlier represented by his father, former Chief Minister Hiteswar Saikia, and later by his mother Hemoprava Saikia.
For the election, Congress has teamed up with several opposition groups, including Raijor Dal, Assam Jatiya Parishad, CPI(M), CPI(ML) Liberation, and the All Party Hills Leaders Conference, to jointly take on the contest in the state.
After completing the formalities, Saikia said he is hopeful about the outcome and believes the alliance has a good opportunity to form the next government in the state, challenging the current BJP-led administration.
