Digboi: Digboi saw significant political activity on the final day of nominations for the Assam Assembly elections, with BJP candidate and two-time MLA Suren Phukan filing his papers at the Tinsukia District Commissionerโs office amid a large turnout of supporters.
Phukan began the day with prayers at a Namghar with his family, followed by a roadshow from his Tingrai residence. Supporters lined the route, chanting slogans, and the procession drew sizeable crowds across the constituency.
Phukan mentioned his accessibility to voters, stating, โI am perhaps the only MLA in the state whose residential gate remains open 24ร7 for the service and convenience of my constituents.โ
After serving two consecutive terms, Phukan is contesting again. His work on road connectivity, infrastructure, and community-level initiatives has contributed to his support base.
The contest remains competitive. Dulal Moran, supported by Congress and the Raijor Dal backed by AJP, is considered a main challenger, while Bharat Nayak (Jai Bharat Party) and Jiten Nag (Trinamool Congress) are also in the fray, making it a multi-cornered race.
Phukan has reiterated plans to fast-track the long-pending water supply project and establish an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) to address youth employment, issues expected to influence voter decisions.
With parties presenting their organisational capacities and candidates, Digboi now moves into a crucial phase, where voter engagement and local connect are likely to play an important role in determining the outcome.
