Guwahati: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) unveiled its list of 26 candidates for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections on Thursday, combining seasoned leaders with active local representatives across the state.

Party president Atul Bora will contest from Bokakhat, while senior leader Keshab Mahanta is set to run from Koliabor.

The party has also nominated Diptimoyee Choudhury from Bongaigaon, continuing its effort to include more women in the electoral race.

The list spans multiple regions, covering upper Assam seats like Tezpur, Sivasagar, and Naoboicha, central and lower Assam areas including Barpeta, Goalpara East, and Chenga, and Barak Valley constituencies such as Sonai, Karimganj South, Algapur-Katlichera, and Binnakandi. This broad spread indicates AGPโ€™s attempt to maintain influence across the state.

The partyโ€™s strategy appears focused on blending experienced politicians with energetic local leaders. Several nominees, including professionals from various fields, signal an effort to bring a diverse skill set into governance.

Political analysts say AGPโ€™s candidate selection reflects the partyโ€™s focus on regional roots and strong local connections, while it readies for elections alongside allied parties.

The candidate list is likely to rally AGP supporters and prepare the party for a competitive battle across Assamโ€™s constituencies.
