Former BJP Minister Kabindra Purkayastha came down heavily on the Congress party, especially leaders of Barak valley for their one point agenda of defaming Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Lashing out at Congress MLA from North Karimganj Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Kabindra Purkaystha said, “It seems he has taken the responsibility on behalf of his party to defame Assam CM every single day. Every morning I take the newspaper in my hand and see him passing snide remarks of a person who among so many chief ministers of Assam has come out openly for the first time to acknowledge the fact that Barak valley needs development to make the state developed.”

“While National BJP president Amit Shah has said, just a day back that Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 would be passed at any cost, Congress party is projecting that we are against Bengali Hindus of Barak valley,” he added.

“We have stated from 1980 onwards that Hindus who have been persecuted out there in Bangladesh are free to come here but not those who have wanted a Muslim nation then and now would like to infiltrate into India,” Purkayastha said.

Clarifying the stand of the BJP party in regards to the non acceptance of documents like, Refugee registration card, 1951 NRC list, 1966 voters list, and its like, by state coordinator of NRC, Prateek Hajela who has submitted in his SOP to Supreme Court minister Parimal Suklabaidya said, “I am saying this on behalf of my party as well as my CM that we would incorporate all of these documents of the commoners and submit a fresh affidavit before the supreme court before the aforesaid date.”

Speaking to Northeast Now, he added, “Chief Secretary of Assam Alok Kumar would visit Silchar on Monday and on Tuesday he would visit Hailakandi and Karimganj to take stock of these issues and talk to people to hear their grievances. We want genuine citizens of India, not be left out of the final NRC and want to ease the process of filling up the ‘claims’ form for them to incorporate their names.”

On the issue of the Bharat Bandh call by Congress and the Left parties on Monday, state BJP Spokesperson, Dr Rajdeep Roy said, “We are against this bandh, but won’t tell our supporters to forcefully open the shops or ply his or her private vehicles on the road. We would stand by those, whosoever wants to keep his shop or business open on Monday for any transactions.”

“During Monmohon Singhji’s regime in 2013, petrol price shot to Rs 81 in Mumbai. We also know how the prices of essential commodities also went through the roof during that period. Now all of these commodities are normal except the fuel prices owing to rise of prices in the world market. An executive committee too has been formed at the centre to bring it down. The Congress and Left parties are trying to raise an issue just because they couldn’t find any in the last four years and general elections are in sight, just a few months away in 2019. Good luck to them,” he added.
