Guwahati: In a notable development, Assam Police rescued a man who had been missing from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, since October 2023. Officials confirmed on Sunday that the man was found wandering in the Hatikhuli area of Bokakhat in Golaghat district.

The man, later identified as Shreerangan, was safely taken into custody, and his identity was confirmed through verification with authorities.

According to police sources, personnel from Golaghat Police spotted the man roaming aimlessly in the Hatikhuli locality and brought him to the police station for questioning and assistance.

During preliminary interactions, officers suspected that he might have been reported missing elsewhere, prompting them to initiate verification procedures.

After detailed checks and coordination with the Kerala Police, the man was identified as Shreerangan, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram who had reportedly gone missing in October 2023.

Authorities confirmed that a missing person record had been registered in Kerala, and the family had been searching for him for more than two years.

Police officials said the rescue highlights the importance of interstate coordination among law-enforcement agencies in tracing missing persons.

Senior officers of the Assam Police are now in contact with the Kerala Police to facilitate further legal formalities and ensure the manโ€™s safe reunion with his family.

An officer involved in the operation said that the man appeared disoriented when he was found but was cooperative during verification.

Authorities are currently ensuring his safety and well-being while arrangements are being made for his return to his home state.

Police officials noted that the swift response of the Golaghat district police and the timely exchange of information between the two state police forces played a crucial role in resolving the long-pending missing person case.

Further procedures are underway as the process for handing him over to Kerala authorities progresses.
