The Gauhati High Court has granted bail to Akshay Chand Baid, one of the prime accused in the Assam police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam.

The high court on Monday granted bail to Chand and eight other accused of the case.

Businessman Akshay Chand Baid was arrested by CID in October last year for his alleged involvement in the question paper leak of SI recruitment examination.

Akshay Telecommunication, the company owned by Akshay Chand Baid, got a sub-contract for conducting the SI Recruitment Exam.

As per reports, the High Court granted bail to Chand considering his aggravated medical condition.

The Assam government had last year cancelled a written exam to recruit 597 sub-inspectors to the police force after the question paper was leaked.

A special team of Assam Police along with a CID team had arrested several accused including former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) PK Dutta and ex-BJP leader Diban Deka.

The police also arrested APS officer Kumar Sanjit Krishna, brother of former chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, in connection with the scam.
