Assam Director General of Police (DGP) G P Singh stated that the Centre has issued strict directives to prohibit unauthorized individuals from crossing the border into India.
The Border Security Force (BSF) is the primary security force guarding the Bangladesh border, while the Assam Police is providing additional support.
“We are conducting joint patrols with the BSF to ensure the border is secure,” Singh said.

However, the DGP clarified that Indian passport holders, primarily students and traders, will be permitted entry after thorough document verification.
Bangladeshi citizens found illegally crossing the border will be escorted back to their country through a safe corridor following necessary checks.
“There have been no reports of illegal entries into the state so far,” Singh added.
The Assam Police is also taking additional security measures for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
