A sub-inspector of police, posted at the Panery PS of Udalguri district, allegedly committed suicide on Friday morning by shooting himself in his quarter.
The deceased in his late fifties has been identified as Sukumar Talukdar.

He shot himself with his 9 mm service pistol, said Bhergaon Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Nirmal Ghosh.
He further added that prima-facie it appears to be a case of suicide but the investigation is on.
Sources informed that the deceased officer was known to be sincere and dedicated to his work.

He was the second-in-charge of the police station.
He was a resident of Chamata in Nalbari district and is survived by two daughters and wife.
His body was later retrieved in presence of a magistrate and sent for post-mortem at Udalguri Civil Hospital.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case and are investigating into the matter.
