GUWAHATI: A one-horned rhino, was discovered lifeless with its horn brutally removed at the Kaziranga National Park in Assam on Saturday (March 23) morning, sparking concerns of poaching activities in the vicinity.
According to reports, the carcass of the rhinoceros was located within the Burapahar range of the Kaziranga National Park in Assam.
The absence of its horn indicated that the rhino had tragically fallen victim to poaching.
Upon receiving the news, officials of the Assam forest department were promptly notified and swiftly arrived at the scene to retrieve the carcass for post-mortem examination.
While the precise cause of death remains under investigation, the removal of the horn strongly suggests the involvement of poachers in the killing.
This unfortunate incident follows the recent discovery earlier this month of another rhinoceros carcass in Gai Tapu, situated within the confines of Kaziranga National Park in Assam.
Workers from Gai Tapu stumbled upon the carcass along the riverbanks, with the rhinoceros suspected to have succumbed to age-related ailments.
