Former Chief Executive Member (CEM) of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council and former MLA of Haflong Samarjit Haflongbar submitted a public interest litigation (PIL) petition to the Gauhati High Court on Thursday challenging the notification memo no HAD.85/2018/13-A dated 31/52018 issued by the Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Assam, HAD extending the term of NC Hills Autonomous Council for a period of six months with effect from June 3.

Altogether twelve numbers of advocates are participating in this particular PIL case for giving justice to the people of Dima Hasao district.

The first hearing is expected to held next Monday.

Haflongbar said he has full confidence and faith on the judiciary and exuded confidence that the court will give its verdict in his favour for the larger interest of the people of Dima Hasao.

Notably, Governor of Assam Prof Jagadish Mukhi on May 31 extended the term of present BJP-led NCHAC for six months citing the publication of the final draft of NRC as the issue.
