Assam police on Friday arrested a junior engineer (JE) of state public health engineering (PHE) department for offering Rs 90,000 bribe to an additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Barpeta district for influencing a probe against him.
PHE junior engineer Nasiruddin Ahmed was held at Barpeta deputy commissioner’s office when he had come to offer a bribe of Rs 90,000 to ADC Nabajit Pathak.
ADC Pathak is investigating into a scam relating to construction of sanitary toilets in Barpeta district.
Sources said JE Ahmed is an accused of the scam involving several lakh and he tried to bribe ADC Pathak to influence the probe.
Ahmed is being questioned at Barpeta police station in connection with the case.
