A search of Goswami's residence in Hengrabari unearthed additional cash amounting to Rs. 79,87,500.

Guwahati: The sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (VAC) of Assam police arrested a senior Public Health Engineering (PHE) department official on Monday for accepting a bribe.

Jayanta Goswami, an Executive Engineer working under the Superintending Engineer (PHE) of the North Lakhimpur Circle, was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from a complainant at Hengrabari in Guwahati.

The complainant had approached the VAC after Goswami allegedly demanded the bribe in exchange for clearing pending bills. The VAC team then laid a trap, leading to Goswami’s arrest.

A search of Goswami’s residence in Hengrabari unearthed additional cash amounting to Rs. 79,87,500. The VAC has seized this amount for further investigation.
